NADIR SHAHARIAR – ARTIST PROFILE

An artist’s expression can be for different reasons. It can be for social or political awareness; it can be for entertainment; it can be for emotional healing, or it may be for just something to capture time. Whatever the reason, the artist has the responsibility to be completely honest with nature and to his viewer. To attain this the artist must consider these three vantage points: the subject, the viewer and the artist himself.

Nadir took his first steps into art when he was five years old.  During the same period, he was also introduced to theatre. Theatre had a definitive impact on his worldview and the society he lived in. Art developed into a passion for him and later propelled his dreams to pursue a career in the realm.

When Nadir began his artistic journey, he experimented with many themes like “Destination”, “Rape”, “Nature”, “Room” and “Childhood”. All his themes were based on one or more of the following: nature, emotions, human psychology, social or political issues. He explored these themes in oil color, acrylics, sculpting, mixed medium, and installations. He showed great patience in developing his vision and to find a soul in his art rather than trying to find an unique style and technique. He pushed his imagination to test the boundaries of technique, medium, language, religion and traditions.

During his career, he donned many roles: as a teacher, an actor, a scriptwriter, a film maker, a set designer, a social worker, a photographer and as a musician. The life experiences from these roles gradually reverberated into his art.

Nadir began his solo exhibitions with “Destination” – paintings based on old age. He went on tours with his creations to many cities of Bangladesh. His second solo exhibitions were with his paintings titled “The Crow’s Moments”. He was also part of many group exhibitions during this period.

Nadir moved to Canada in 2010 and presently lives in city of Toronto with his wife and daughter.
